Strangers trying to run over an active teacher in the resistance

Dunia Ruiz

"A low wall of concrete saved my life when two unidentified men on two occasions tried to run over me a black colored vehicle, Dunia Ruiz, a teacher told the Committee of Relatives of Detained and Disappeared in Honduras, COFADEH, minutes after the event last Friday March 5.

Ruiz has been a social activist who since the Union of Public Employees, always, more so in the context of the coup has received acts of harassment and persecution against her life , which have increased since September 22, a day after the arrival of President Manuel Zelaya Rosales to the Embassy of Brazil, last year, after the coup perpetrated.

"On 22 September after the eviction took place at the Embassy, I saw two vehicles colonel type which passed my house and stopped casually, pretending they were wrecked and they opened the windows, plus two young men on a motorbike had come in search of me to my house allegedly to collect money for items, but I have no credit in any agency, "she lamented.

On friday, the first time the vehicle brushed against her leg she thought it was someone who could not drive, therefore she was unalarmed and trusted too much the situation, but a few minutes later two men driving the same car followed with the intent to run her over and to pretend to show all that happened as an accident.
At the time of the attack she returned from paying food maintenance to her children on the outskirts of the capital. A youth from the sector, whom she asked if it was people in that area informed her that they weren't, but it's been a while since they follow her.
After the second attempt to run the vehicle over her, it sped away, "when the car stopped half a block I observed that the man who was co-pilot had signaled him and the one who was driving had a tattoo of a dragon on his left arm, who later went to a billiard, "I saw that one had a big gun."
Ruiz took a taxi to ward off a third attack, but the men followed the car which she addressed. The chase lasted about 15 minutes.
COFADEH requested security measures to vice minister of security
In an urgent letter sent to Armando Calidonio, Vice Minister of Security, by the lawyer Kenya Oliva from the Area Access to Justice of COFADEH, she recounts the events which put at serious risk the life of teacher Ruiz and asked to provide appropriate security measures "to ensure her physical integrity and her family's."
The note was answered by office number SUB-SEDS 033-2010, where Calidonio tells the lawyer Oliva that he has instructed to handle the request.
Since this note does not have effective security measures, the COFADEH fears they may carry out new attacks against the affected.
