Gunmen burst into home of widow of political murder victim Herminio Deras

byDINA MEZA

The criminals ransacked the house

Three heavily armed men came as a surprise to the home of Otilia Deras on Tuesday March 9 in Colonia Los Alamos, San Pedro Sula. She is wife of martyr Herminio Deras and was forced to remain in a toilet while the gunmen beat the maid.

Herminio was assassinated on January 29 1983, in San Pedro Sula, by members of Battalion 3-16. He was a committed social leader, whose crime is still unpunished 27 years after his death.

It was about 9:30 in the morning when the incident occurred. The men took advantage that the gate was open to get to ransack the house, hitting in the head the person in charge of the office of the house.

The order was to take everything in their path, as Otilia told defensoresenlinea.com , about an hour later, she explained that she doesn't know how they left still being able to take some things out of the house alerting her to be careful that if they did not kill her, others would do so if she left her gate open.

"I was filled with courage so I told one of them that they shouldn't do that to me, that I am the wife of Herminio Deras, a man who gave his life for the country," he added.

Without leaving her fright, Otilia noted that it is shocking what has happened considering all that is happening in the country since the coup.

On February 24 Claudia Brizuela was killed in San Pedro Sula, daughter of Pedro Brizuela, an active member of the resistance in the north-western region, who considers that the death of his relative is a product of police state in the country against people who are against the coup.

The repressive actions that are disguised as criminal acts have left unfortunate consequences for the country, recently, last Friday, teacher Dunia Ruiz, was the victim of an attempted hit by unknown men who also were armed.
