La Voz de los de Abajo strongly condemns the massacre on November 15th of our compañeros from the Campesino Movement of Aguan (MCA) from El Tumbador and Guadalupe Carney in Colon. We share the grief and outrage of our brothers and sisters in Aguan and of all who must be deeply affected by this latest of many atrocities against the campesinos of Honduras.
We are well acquainted with the the MCA community of Guadalupe Carney having visited there over the years and having seen with our own eyes the fruit of the campesinos' struggle. The community was founded through the struggle of the campesinos themselves on land that was once a center of death and torture called the Regional Military Training Center (CREM) operated by the U.S. and Honduran military. The campesino families have worked for more than ten years to turn this death center into a project of life and sustenance - but they have paid a heavy price for their struggles. More than a dozen members of the MCA have been murdered and their lands been attacked, their persons threatened and their struggle demonized by the powerful, like Miguel Facusse, who believe that the campesinos have no right to life.
The campesinos in Honduras have been in permanent resistance against their own extermination for decades and the coup of June 2009 has unleashed an even greater torrent of violence against them. We extend our unconditional solidarity and deepest condolences to the organizations and communities of Aguan: to the MCA, to the National Center of Rural Workers (CNTC); to the National Association of Honduran Campesinos (ANACH); the MARCA, the MUCA and to all the campesinos and their organizations fighting for justice in Honduras.
Furthermore, as residents of the United States, we demand an immediate end to all support - whether political, economic, overt or covert- to the coup regime and the forces of repression in Honduras.
