LA CEIBA – The son of Mauro Gonzalez, president of the National Trade Union Federation of Honduras (FESITRANH), died of bullet wounds yesterday afternoon in a car wash located on the El Toronjal neighborhood.

Mauricio Nahum Gonzalez Coello, 21, who was an employee of a cellular company in La Ceiba, was attacked while waiting for his car that was being washed.

According to witnesses, two men arrived on a motorcycle and without saying a word, opened fire on Gonzalez Coello, killing him instantly.

The strangers abandoned the motorcycle and fled the scene but authorities have been unable to locate them after intense tracking operations in the area of the El Toronjal and Mejía neighborhoods.

Mauro Gonzalez arrived with the mother of the victim, Xiomara Coello, who could not believe what happened. They were attended by many former colleagues of the unfortunate, who also lamented his death.

The President of the Trade Union of Workers of Standard, Jose Alfredo Jimenez, arrived at the scene to confirm that it was Mauricio Gonzalez, son of union leader Francisco Mauro Gonzalez.

“Mauricio was a young man who worked for a cellular company, very prominent in customer service and we are surprised that someone has come to the carwash to kill him,” Jimenez said.

He said that Mauricio was a family man, the only son of Xiomara Coello, hardworking and dedicated to his studies at the Universidad Tecnológica Centroamericana (Unitec).

“The labor union is mourning this tragedy, deeply regret the irreparable loss of teammate Mauro and Xiomara González Coello,” said Jimenez.
